We are proud to announce that, at the beginning of this year, Global textware added ISO 18587 to its credentials. This certification is the international gold standard for post-editing machine translations. During the external audit conducted by the organization KIWA, Global textware demonstrated that its post-editing services are in accordance with international specifications. In other words, our post-editing services have been proven to deliver consistently high quality for both our clients and the end users of our translations.

Why is this certification so significant for your business?

The importance of the ISO standards is best explained through a brief history of the ISO, the International Organization for Standardization. The ISO is an NGO, and was founded in Geneva in 1947. After the destruction left in the wake of World War II, the United Nations developed the goal of fair and honest global commerce between countries, using products and services that were safe, reliable, and of high quality. This enabled businesses and consumers across the world to rest assured that the products and services they were using originated from a trustworthy organisation in possession of the corresponding ISO certification. These ISO standards afford Global textware’s many international clients the same luxury: confidence in the quality of our services.

How does this new standard affect translation service providers?

Until now, the ISO 17100 had been the only international standard for translation services, often combined with the ISO 9001 for quality management. However, the world is an ever-changing place, and technology in the translation sector has continued to develop rapidly. This resulted in an entirely new type of service: post-editing machine translations. Of course, this new service requires a different approach than is typical in the traditional translation process. In turn, the new standard establishes essential guidelines that enable us to guarantee consistent, high-quality post-editing from machine translations.

As clients, what differences can we expect now that you have this certification?

Much like traditional translation, post-editing is an individual professional field, and this standard creates the framework for an improved professional process. The procedures and regulations in the ISO 18587 certification ensure that we set certain requirements for our post-editors. The certification also resulted in a separate work method post-editing projects, which has its own process and description. Following the steps in this process allows us to ensure that our post-editing work is of the same quality as our standard translations. Regardless of whether you are looking for a standard translation or post-edit, you can always be certain that Global textware will deliver work of the highest caliber.
