I joined Global textware in September, 2007 and have been working on translations in the marketing communications segment, particularly for computer hardware, audio, search engines and companies involved in sustainable energy. Because teamwork and versatility are valued highly at Global textware, I also step in when urgent translation of user interfaces or help files are required. Finally, I work on internal translations and reporting for the Global textware website.
Since graduating in English at the University of Groningen, I have worked as a freelance translator, writer/illustrator and workshop teacher (specialising in cartooning and illustration). This has given me a wide range of knowledge and interests that I still profit from in my translation work today. Translating at Global is an interesting and varied activity, in which my professional colleagues keep me on the ball.
Outside of the working day, I knacker myself running with the Loopgroep Astrea, write and draw comic strips and spend far too much time tinkering with my PC. Other things that bring joy into my life include powerful rock music, a good book or the sort of Indian meal that causes one to breathe fire. In the past, I've kept myself busy with playing guitar in various local bands, amateur drama, writing for a student paper and taking long cycling tours in the Northern provinces. |
